What Is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is an alloy of iron containing chromium, and sometimes nickel, manganese and other elements. The chromium forms a passive protective oxide film on the surface, giving stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance, rust resistance, high strength and easy cleaning.

Thanks to these advantages, stainless steel is widely used for handrails, security doors & windows, architectural decoration, furniture, engineering construction and many outdoor projects.

Common Stainless Steel Grades

1. Grade 201 Stainless Steel Low nickel content, cost-effective. Good for indoor decoration, indoor handrails, indoor security frames. Suitable for projects with budget control. Not recommended for heavy coastal salt-spray environments.
2. Grade 304 Stainless Steel The most popular all-purpose grade. Balanced corrosion resistance and price. Widely used for indoor & outdoor handrails, decorative box bars, pipe railings, building facades. Works well in most normal atmospheric environments. This is the top choice for most Sri Lanka, South Asia construction projects.
3. Grade 316 Stainless Steel Added molybdenum for superior anti-corrosion performance, especially resistant to chloride and salt water. Ideal for coastal areas, seaside buildings, wet environment projects, swimming pool railings. Higher price than 304.
